Now that Winter is here it's the perfect time to discuss seasonal eating.
Eating seasonally means that:
Your food is fresher and therefore contains more nutrients
Your food has spent less time in storage or come from overseas (in theory!)
You are giving your gut microbiome a variety of food sources
Your food is cheaper!
I like to eat with the seasons as it means that I am getting fresher produce, the foods I eat contain the nutrients I need during that season and as a bonus, my veggies are cheap due to the abundance!
The foods that are thriving in winter include:
Fruits:
Apples
Grapefruit
Kiwi fruit
Lemons
Limes
Mandarins
Oranges
Pears
Pomegranates
Tangelos
Leafy Greens:
Broccoli
Brussel sprouts

Root Vegetables:

Jerusalem artichokes
Onions
Parsnips
Potatoes
Swedes
Sweet Potatoes

Other Vegetables:

I like to use these veggies for slow cooking, roasting, and making them into stews and soups!
Let me know if you eat seasonally and how you like to use these veggies?
